 Welcome to Brookside Extended Care's Home Page. We are very excited that you are interested in learning more about our facility.
Brookside is an Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) and has been providing care to individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities since 1980. Brookside is one of only a few facilities in the state of Ohio that specializes in the care of individuals with severe to profound mental retardation. We are licensed through the Department of Developmental Disabilities and have the ability to serve 108 individuals.
Brookside is more than a "care" facility. We are a "teaching" facility. We believe in our resident's ability to become independent. It is Brookside's responsibility to assist our residents in maintaining the skills they already have and it is our goal to build upon those skills. Our residents participate in daily living skills to the highest degree possible.
One of Brookside's greatest attributes is the longevity of staff. The average number of years of service in our nursing department is 15 years. We have many staff who have been employees of Brookside since Brookside opened in 1980! Our staff take a personal interest in each and every one of our residents while providing the highest quality of care. Even though Brookside is in theory a "medical facility", we believe our residents' home should be warm and inviting.
Brookside is also known for its strong therapy team. Brookside's Therapy Department consists of a Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), Speech Therapist (SP), Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), and three therapy aides. Our therapy team is well versed in the latest therapies and technologies available to residents with ambulation issues, oral motor weaknesses and even those with severe contractures. Our therapy team is available to our residents 7 days a week. In addition to on-site services, Brookside's therapists are currently providing services to our residents at workshop (CLW) once a week.
